AHA! Poetry's Open Mike. AHA! Poetry's Open Mike offers an online form for you to share and publish your poetry. To read previous poems posted monthly, click here. The site is suitable for grades 5-12.
All about folktales. All about folktales shows you how to write your own folktale and invites you to submit your own folktale or finish Anansi and the Witch after you've read it. The site is suitable for students in grades 4-8.
Bedtime-Story. Bedtime-Story, a courtesy of Home Office Mall, features a variety of original large print, illustrated, read aloud, short stories to help younger children develop a love of reading. Each story contains a summary and notes, and topics include pets, dragons, African-American stories, Native American stories, stories worth talking about, and others. Blue Mountain Arts' Poetry Card Contest. The Blue Mountain Arts' Poetry Card Contest is an opportunity for Internet users to enter poems into a competition which could result in their being published on the Blue Mountain Arts Web site. To view the poetry from all other previous winners, click on Winning Poetry Page. The site, suitable for students in grades 7-12, provides poetry contest guidelines.
Boo-Grams. Boo-Grams, with a Goosebumps theme, offer a choice of six email postcards including different stamps for sending to a pen pal. The site is suitable for students in grades 4-6.
Book Review Forum. The Book Review Forum, created by Bill Chapman for elementary school children, features a list of book reviews written by students for other students. The students rate books they really want to read! To send your review, click on Submit a Book Review and follow the online directions. You can also post a followup to a book already reviewed.
Candlelight Stories. Candlelight Stories invites story writers (grades 6-12) and illustrators to submit their work to be published on Candlelight. The site contains an international gallery of illustrated stories including Mother Goose's The Cat and the Fiddle illustrated by Alexander Cima for preK-1.
Cathy's Riddle Fun House. Cathy's Fun House provides an easy-to-use form for elementary school children to submit their riddles. The site also includes other kids' riddles.
Childrens Stomping Ground Fun Page. The Childrens Stomping Ground Fun Page feature a collection of diversions including jokes, tongue twisters, knock-knocks, "bet-ya" and a collaborative story. At each diversion, you are invited to contribute via email.
Children's Stories. Children's Stories is a collection of fiction and nonfiction reading passages that Phil Shapiro wrote for his elementary school students.
Coleman's Brain Gym Interactive. Coleman's Brain Gym Interactive features a variety of high school resources for publishing creative writing.
Collaborative Writing Engine. The Collaborative Writing Engine provides a collection of ongoing cooperative writing projects in fiction and poetry for students in grades 7-12.
Collab-o-Write. Collab-o-Write, part of the Thinkquest 1996 contest, offers a variety of options for middle and high school students to publish their own work at this site. Students can enter their own stories, add to existing stories, illustrate a story, or write a story from an illustration. The site also includes a page of writing tips and a list of previously written stories.
Creative Nexus: Literature. Creative Nexus: Literature features four major writing categories with over 40 works contributed students. The categories include poetry, short story, essay, and journalism. Students in grades 7-12 can submit their own work to be included at this Web site.
Creative Writing for Kids. Creative Writing for Kids from The Mining Company provides a collection of sites where students can publish their works online. The site is suitable for grades K-12.
Chris Van Allsburg's The Mysteries of Harris Burdick. Houghton Mifflin invites elementary school students to write a story about any of the 15 drawings from Chris Van Allsburg's children's book The Mysteries of Harris Burdick. Students can share their own stories.
CWFK's Publishing Center. Creative Writing for Kids (CWFC) from The Mining Company provides an online form for students to submit their work for publication at this site. The site also contains examples of students' writing from preschool through high school as well as biographical information on every student author.
Cyberzine. Cyberzine is an online magazine featuring articles and reviews written by middle school students. Students are free to express their opinions on issues on just about anything that may interest them.
Diary Project. The Diary Project, launched in 1995, invites you to record your thoughts and experiences and to write as freely as you would in your own journal. Entries can be posted anonymously or with first names and ages attached. Diary Project's goal is to make it an interactive site so that students everywhere in grades 6-12 can communicate amongst themselves, inspiring themes and ideas for discussion.
dMarie Poem Place. dMarie Poem Place provides an online form for submitting your poems to a list of close to 1,400 poems. The site, suitable for grades K-12, includes 22 poem categories.
Education by Design: Kids Activities. Education by Design, an educational software publisher, features a kids activities writing section where elementary school kids are invited to publish their stories, jokes, and poems. The site also includes selections of previous writings.
Electronic Elementary Magazine: "The E-Link". Electronic Elementary Magazine: "The E-Link", hosted by the University of Maryland, provides a collection of sites that offer online collaborative projects for elementary school students. This Web magazine publishes quarterly and invites to send original articles, pictures, and other student works for publication.
Ghosts: The Page That Goes Bump in the Night. Ghosts: The Page That Goes Bump in the Night, for grades 7-12, features a collection of "true" ghost stories sent in by vistors to this site. The site provides an online formto add your "true" ghost story to the collection and related links.
Great Little Writers. The Great Little Writers from Ika Bremer's Story page invites you to submit your poems and stories. The site is suitable for grades 4-12.
Haiku Headlines of the Day. Haiku Headlines of the Day, created by Michael Sheinbaum, invites you to visit the news desk to submit your haiku about a current news headline.
Haiku-o-Matic. Haiku-o-Matic invites students in grades 7-12 to submit their haiku poems for publication at this site. By clicking on the Reload button, students can also view haikus by other poets and scramble haikus generating zany poetry.
International Kids' Space Story Book. International Kids' Space Story Book offers a variety of options for publishing kid's works in grades 2-8. Kids can contribute to a monthly pictograph story where each special word is replaced by a colorful picture. Kids can also write their own original stories, help write an orginal story as a class project, or create a pictograph for the Bean Stalk story by illustrating someone else's story, or by writing a story for someone else's picture. Interactive Poetry Pages. Interactive Poetry Pages, maintained by Ann Cantelow for middle and high school students, is an online poetry collaboration where you're invited to add a line to a poem in progress and to view the finished results. There are several categories including general and rhyming poetry, haiku, song lyrics and teen interests.
Julie's Poetry Page. Julie's Poetry Page, for grades 9-12, contains a collection of poems sent in from around the world. To submit your poetry, click here.
Kaitlyn's Knock Knock Jokes and Riddles. Kaitlyn's Knock Knock Jokes and Riddles, created by a young girl named Kaitlyn invites kids everywhere to send via email or regular mail (Kaitlyn Ruth Bayne, P.O. KidLit. KidLit, for students in grades K-12, welcomes a poem, a book review, or a short story, sent by email or by regular mail on a disk. Scroll to "Literature" to read previous the works by other students.
KidNews. KidNews, created by Peter Owens, is a free news and writing service for students and teachers around the world. Anyone may use stories from the service for educational purposes, and anyone may submit stories and any child may sign up to become a pen pal. Its main menu includes stories about news, features, profiles, sports, and other newspaper-related topics. The site is suitable for K-12.
Kids' Books. The Seminole County Public Library System Services (SCPLS) in central Florida provides a collection of recommended books for students in grades K-12. Categories range from scary stories to U.S. historical fiction. Students are invited to write a review of a book on the list they've read which will be published at this site. Kids Did This Hotlist: Language Arts. Kids Did This Hotlist: Language Arts is a collection of over 50 sites showcasing kids' original works, poems, and stories for grades K-12.
Kids Eye Viewpoint. Kids Eye Viewpoint, sponored by Scripps Howard Broadcasting Company, posts every week a different "opinion" question along with a spot to give your response by email. Last week's questions and responses are also posted.
Kids Own Radio Dramas. Kids Own Radio Dramas, presented by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, provides online instructions for writing a three-minute radio drama, recording it on tape, and having it broadcast on RealAudio at this site. The site is suitable for grades 4-12.
Kids' Post. Kids' Post from Random House invites primary grade kids to submit reviews of their favorite books. The site also includes reviews from other kids.
Kid's Story. Kid's Story, sponored by the Mystic Community Center in Connecticut, contains a variety of stories by kids, teens, and schools from around the world. You can also submit your own stories, poems, or write a story online by completing word play games (madlibs). The site is suitable for grades K-12.
Kid's Story Telling Club. The Kid's Story Telling Club presents monthly a new story theme fo primary grade kids. The site includes crafts and activities to use with their stories..
Kiplink Trunk o' Tales. Kiplink Trunk o' Tales provides this first line, Many years ago, in the village of Omigosh, there lived a fairy named Fidjit, and asks you to continue the story online. After you read contributions from other kids, scroll to "Okay, now it's YOUR turn!" to enter your story. The site is suitable for grades K-5.
Knock! Knock! Knock! Knock! from PBS Kids features a variety of jokes for grades K-4.. Topics include animals, holidays, PBS shows characters, people, and places. You're invited to submit via email your knock knock jokes for publication at this site.
Library. The Library from Planet Zoom offers variety of topics that elementary school students can write about. The topics range from adventure to people and to culture. Each topic includes poetry, stories, and other forms of writing. The site provides submission guidelines.
Little Planet Times. Little Planet Times is an online newspaper by kids and for kids in grades K-5. Kids can enjoy other kids creative stuff and submit letters, stories, jokes, movie and book reviews, or whatever else they would like.
Live And Learn: Kids Page. Live And Learn provides a kids page with jokes and stories for the primary grades. Students can pick an ending for an online story or can send via mail their jokes for publication at this site.
Magnetic Poetry. Magnetic Poetry, suitable for grades 4-12, invites your submissions using the Magnetic Poetry Kit and provides an online anthology of poems from all over the world. The site also offers a list of classroom ideas for using the kit.
Mahoneys' Book Reviews. The Mahoneys' Book Reviews, suitable for grades K-12, contains reviews of recent fiction, nonfiction, and children's books by the Mahoney family, kids, and other contributors. To submit a review via email, click here.
FreeZone supplies a home page generator. Also, Billy Bear, Marilee, and GeoCities each offer links to sites for creating your own home page.
My Hero. My Hero celebrates the "unsung" heroes among us by asking elementary and middle school students to write about your very special person who has shown acts of courage, kindness, generosity, or ability. The site provides step-by-step instructions for submitting a description of your hero in the Guest Book. Students can also read about famous historical figures and ordinary heroes by scrolling and clicking on Hero Stories.
News of the Day. News of the Day features humorous haiku summaries of the daily U.S. and world news. You can submit your own haiku to be included in this poetic summary of current events. To enter the site to view archives of previous haikus or to post your own haiku, you must type in a valid email address. The site is suitable for high school students.
Newz Flash. Newz Flash from FreeZone provides guidelines for students to submit their stories as fledging news reporters. Students can report on a variety of topics including world and local news, sports, and culture as well as read stories by other student news reporters. The site is suitable for middle and high school students.
One Book List. The One Book List contains a list of books, chosen between the hundreds of books that have helped to shape our thoughts. You can submit your choice of the single book that you would most like for the world to read --- the book that, for you, was the most influential, or thought-provoking, or enjoyable, or moving, or philosophically powerful, or deep in some sense you cannot properly define, or any other criteria you wish to set. The site is suitable for grades 7-12.
Palindrome Galore. Palindrome Galore features a collection of over 500 palindromes ranging from small single words to giant wacky sentences and paragraphs. A palindrome is a word, phrase, sentence, or number that reads the same forward and backwards. Do you have a palindrome to submit for publication? The site is suitable for grades 5-12.
Parents and Children Together Online (PCTO). Parents and Children Together Online (PCTO) is an online magazine, sponored by the ERIC Clearinghouse on Reading, English, and Communication. The site offers original read-aloud stories and articles for children and by children and students from preschool to eighth grade are invited to submit their own contributions using the writer's guidelines. In the Online Sample Issue #3, students will find Global Campfire storytelling stories.
Pet Arena. The Pet Arena is where elementary school sudents can send in a story about your their special pet friends including pictures. To read other kids' stories, scroll to "Here are some of CBC4Kids' favourite pets" and click on a category. Another excellent place to send your pet stories is KidsCom Pet Arena.
Poetry Page. The Poetry Page from Steve Perry's English Zone, invites high school students to submit their poems for publication at this site.
Poetry Pals. Poetry Pals, a year-long telecollaborating Internet project for grades K-12, is an online publishing site where kids around the world can submit their poetry. Different poetry styles are featured every other month. The site includes poetry examples and forms, poetic terms, teaching activities, and related poetry links.
Poem of the Week. A Poem of the Week invites you to submit your favorite poem by a poet not already listed at the site. Another place for publishing your poetry is Joseph's Zone. These sites, suitable for grades 6-12, contains poetry by such famous poets as Matthew Arnold, Emily Dickinson, Emma Lazarus, Ernest Lawrence Thayer, and contemporary poets as Nicole Voulo and Cassandra.
Poetry Exchange (W 3 P X). The Poetry Exchange (W 3 P X) provides an online form for submitting your poetry to be published on the Web. To view past submissions dating back to 1995, click on the Poetry Exchange Calendar. The site is suitable for grades 7-12.
Poetry Post. A Poetry Post Poetry Post features poems submitted by students from around the world. At this site, you can read, create and submit poems that describe your little corner of the world. The site is suitable for upper-grade elementary school students.
Reading by Teens for Teens.Reading by Teens for Teens is a Web site for students in grades 7-12 to report on a book they've read and find out other students' rating of the book. Students first select a category from science fiction to sports and then express their opinions filling out a simple online survey form.
Read to Write Project.The Read to Write Project, sponored by the Instructional Technology Development Consortium (ITDC), is an online project for the middle school where students read a literature selection, submit information to the project database, participate in discussions, and can get published on the Web.
Resume Generator. Resume Generator, developed by Sun Brothers Consulting, create a resume for you by completing various options in an online form. The site is suitable for high school students.
River of Words. River of Words is a poetry and art contest for grades K-12 sponsored by the International Rivers Network.
Sacramento Bee - KidScene 411. The Sacramento Bee provides an online KidScene feature for grades 3-8 where kids can give their opinions on a variety of topics. The site lists a number of books, software, music, movies and more, then asks kids to write reviews and submit them to be published.
SchoolNet News Network (SNN). SNN, sponsored by Canada's SchoolNet and developed by STEM~Net, is a monthly online publication with news stories written by students from grades K-12. You can submit your story, read the current issue, or the class activities for news writing, an informative guide for student reporters, an online forum to present your views, and links to other online Canadian and U.S. commerical and student newspapers.
Simon and Shuster Reader's Reviews. Simon and Shuster provides high school students with an online form for submitting reviews of books they've read (or listened to). The site also includes hundreds of book reviews for your reading pleasure.
Spyder's Poetry Empire. Spyder's Poetry Empire, a writing a discussion forum created by Nancy Imelda Schafer, features extensive collection of original poems. The site, useful for high school students, encourages students to submit their own poems.
Squigly's Jokes and Riddles. Squigly's Jokes and Riddles features a collection of jokes and riddles for kids by kids. Kids of any age are invited to submit their own.
Stone Soup. Stone Soup, an international magazine for grades 3-8, invites students to submit their manuscripts for publication. The site also contains online sample stories and poems from previous issues and stories by other young writers.
SLUMMIT. Students' Literary Unlimited Multi-media Magazine & Interactive Teacher (SLUMMIT) is an online English language arts magazine for grades 9-12 produced by the Westbury High School in Houston, Texas. It welcomes submissions via email by students, teachers, and guest writers.
Storytime. Storytime and Campfire are two good places for students in grades K-8 to email their stories for publication at the Planet Zoom site.
Story Writing. Story Writing, suitable for grades K-12, invites students to send their stories for publication at the Adventures From The Book Of Virtues Web site. To read a collection of previous stories, click on StoryWeb.
Teachers.Net Homepage Maker. The Teachers.Net Homepage Maker, for K-12 teachers, lets you fill in the blanks on its online form to create a Web page instantly. The form includes teacher and school information, and a large selection of colorful backgrounds, clip art, and bullets are available to liven up the page.
There's an Elf in the Woods. There's an Elf in the Woods, a Billy Bear storybook, lets primary grade children add their names and endings to this online story. You can send via email your ending here, and you can read other kids' endings here. The site requires a JavaScript browser.
Vocal Point. Vocal Point, created and maintained by middle school students in Boulder, Colorado, is an online collaborative, monthly newspaper offering a forum for teenagers around the world. They can express their ideas on a significant local, national, or international topic from the diverse perspectives, and to submit their opinions for publication, scroll to "Teacher, Current Managers, Core Leaders - Past and Present", and contact one of the people by email. Webcards. Webcards is a free online service provided by Adgrafix that allows students in grades 3-12 to customize their own greeting card and then post it on the Web. Students can choose from a variety of online cards including holidays and special occasions. Card recipients get a note in their email box telling them they received a card and the Web address where they can find their greeting.
Whispers. Katharsis formerly Whispers is a "writing club" for teen writers which welcomes submissions.
Whootie Owl's Stories to Grow By. Whootie Owl's Stories to Grow By invites you submit a story, read what other kids say about a story, or answer some questions what you think about a story you've just read. The site, suitable for grades 4-12, contains a collection of folk and fairy tales online categorized according to their central theme of values, (i.e.- courage, friendship, & other positive qualities).
WordSmiths. WordSmiths, provided monthly by the New York Public Library, is where teenagers can publish online their poems and short stories. You may submit via email or regular mail up to 3 poems or 2 short stories or any combination that does not exceed the equivalent of 5 typed double-spaced 8 1/2 x 11" pages. World of Readers. World of Readers is a place where K-12 students worldwide can share the good books they have read by writing a short review. Categories of book reviews include adventure, animal, mystery, sports, scary, fantasy stories, and more. The site also includes a collection online books (wired) and reading and writing resources on the Web.
World Writers. World Writers, created by the Birchwood Elementary School in Bellingham, Washington, provides advice on writing, editing and publishing. The site also includes online guidelines for having your story published.
Write-A-Book. Write-A-Book is Story House's interactive storytelling page where you can contribute four or five sentences to an ongoing story entitled The Story Of The Little Blue Fish. The site is suitable for students in grades 4-12.
Write Me A Story. Write Me A Story challenges you to write a story with the character, prop, and place supplied by KidsCom. As a member (no membership charge), you vote on which stories you think should get posted on the site. Writer's Digest. Writer's Digest is an online guide to getting published for high school students and teachers.
Write to the President. Write to the President offers the opportunity for every student online to send a message to the President.
Yesterday's Island: Limerick Challenge. Yesterday's Island: Limerick Challenge contains a series of limericks discovered in a June 14, 1924 edition of a Nantucket newspaper. You're challenged to submit your own "chapters". The site is suitable for grades 6-12.
Young Writers Club (TYWC). The Young Writers Club (TYWC) is a free Internet-based club offering a wealth of online writing activities for students in grades 2-10. Once you fill in the submission request form, you can add a paragraph to the end of a storybook, contribute a story or a poem, or even submit book or film review. You can also view the complete stories and poems written by other members.
ZuZu. ZuZu is an online newspaper for kids with stories, poems, and pictures done by elementary school kids. You can Get Published! at this site by writing: (1) a story about a mystery picture; (2) about courageous kids; (3) about where you live, or (4) about what you collect.
